Hiroshima Hatsukaichi Bridge
Hiroshima Hatsukaichi Bridge is an 835-meter road bridge that connects Hatsukaichi City with Saeki Ward in Hiroshima City, and it opened in 2001. Its most distinctive feature is its steep gradient. The Hiroshima Hatsukaichi Bridge needed to secure a height of 21 meters so that vessels using Hatsukaichi Port could navigate without issues. For that reason, the bridge was designed with a maximum slope of 6% at its steepest points. When the Eshima Ohashi Bridge between Shimane and Tottori Prefectures became a hot topic a few years ago as the "Betafumi-zaka" in a car commercial, Hiroshima Hatsukaichi Bridge also drew attention as one of Japan’s notably steep bridges. In the film "Custom Made 10.30," there is also a scene where Kaela Kimura rides a motorized bicycle up the slope of Hiroshima Hatsukaichi Bridge. Spanning Hiroshima Bay, the bridge offers views of islands such as Miyajima and the Seto Inland Sea. Hiroshima Hatsukaichi Bridge is about a 10-minute drive from the Hatsukaichi IC on the Hiroshima-Iwakuni Road. When traveling from Hiroshima to Hatsukaichi or Itsukushima, why not try taking the Hiroshima Hatsukaichi Bridge?
