Hiroshima Airport Bridge

Hiroshima Airport Bridge is the longest arch bridge in Japan, located near Hiroshima Airport and nicknamed the "Hiroshima Sky Arch." The bridge opened in April 2011 as part of the Hiroshima Chuo Flight Road to improve access between Hiroshima Airport and northern Hiroshima Prefecture as well as Shimane Prefecture. The arch span is 380 meters wide—large enough to fit Mazda Stadium beneath it. Construction cost approximately 30 billion yen, and because a prefectural road and a JR line run directly beneath the arch and the bridge stands about 190 meters above ground, it was built using a range of advanced engineering technologies. Hiroshima Airport Bridge is about 11 minutes from Hiroshima Airport and about 20 minutes from the Kawachi IC on the Sanyo Expressway. There is no sidewalk, so you cannot cross on foot, but there is a place called Shinji Park about 10 minutes away by car where you can view the Hiroshima Airport Bridge. Driving across this massive bridge is a great experience, but it is also recommended to admire from outside one of Japan’s most notable bridges, boasting the nation’s largest arch and one of the tallest pier heights.
