Okuda Genso Sayume Art Museum

The Motomune Okuda & Oyume Art Museum is an art museum in Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and its name directly uses the names of Motomune Okuda and Oyume. Motomune, the husband, was a Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) artist, and Oyume, his wife, was a doll artist; both received the Order of Culture, and it is said to have been the first time in history that a married couple received the Order of Culture. The museum permanently exhibits works by each of them, and it also hosts exhibitions and other events in its project rooms. The Motomune Okuda & Oyume Art Museum is also famous as "the art museum where the moon looks the most beautiful in Japan," with the lobby designed to showcase the moon at its best. On nights when a full moon is expected, the usual 17:00 closing time may be extended to 21:00, and if a full-moon date coincides with a regular closure day, the closure may be moved to the following day—showing a strong dedication to the "moon." Weather is partly a matter of luck, but it is recommended to check full-moon dates before you go. The museum is barrier-free and offers audio guides, making it accessible and enjoyable for a wide range of visitors.
