Miyajima Public Aquarium

Miyajima Aquarium—nicknamed "Miyajima Marine"—is an aquarium themed around "healing" and "interaction." To avoid harming Miyajima’s scenery, it is housed in a Japanese-style building, with details such as vermilion-colored pillars at the entrance, giving it an exterior that does not look like a typical aquarium.
The aquarium’s symbol is the finless porpoise (sunameri), which sits at the top of the Seto Inland Sea ecosystem pyramid and is also used in the aquarium’s logo. Many once lived around Miyajima, but they are now rare; you can see them on the first floor. Other exhibits unique to Miyajima include a section recreating the tidal flats of Mikasa-hama, where the Great Torii stands, and a section recreating oyster rafts. There are also hands-on events, such as touching Humboldt penguins and "Jabujabu Time," when you can enter a pool with rocky-shore creatures. Access to Miyajima Aquarium is about a 25-minute walk from Miyajima Pier, or about 10 minutes by the shared shuttle bus "Miyajima Maple Liner.",〒739-0534 Hiroshima Prefecture
