Momijidani Park
Momijidani Park lies at the foot of the primeval forest of Mount Misen, which is registered as a World Heritage site as part of the combined heritage with Itsukushima Shrine. The park is known as a place to see a total of about 700 maple trees: roughly 560 Iroha-kaede maples, about 100 Ōmomiji maples, and about 40 others such as Uruhakaede and Yamamomiji.
From spring to summer, you can feel the fresh vitality of the maples, and in autumn they turn brilliantly red from mid to late November. The scenery late in the season, when fallen leaves dye the ground red, is also beautiful. A popular photo spot is the red Momiji Bridge within the park. In 2020, the park also introduced maple illumination for the first time. Access to Momijidani Park: from Miyajima-guchi Pier it is about a 10-minute ferry ride to Miyajima Pier, then about a 20-minute walk. The Momijidani Park entrance is also a terminal for the Miyajima Ropeway’s free shuttle bus, making it a convenient place to visit together with Mount Misen and other sights.
