Renovated in 2017, the Cozy Miyatsuko
Tanimachiya workshops are held in an old Japanese wooden house, Miyatsuko. To get there, first make your way to the closest station, Tanimachi Rokuchome. Take exit 6 and as you come out, turn in the opposite direction. Make a right at the first corner, and continue going straight. At the second corner from there, make a left. Shortly, you should be able to see a small brown sign on your right, and if you enter the small road next to it, it'll lead to Miyatsuko. Inside the building is also a cafe, where you can have lunch or tea, before or after the workshop. (Not included, closed Tuesdays)
Make Origami Earrings
In this course, you will learn how to make earrings (standard or clip-ons) from origami that you fold yourself. First, you can choose from over 50 designs of hand-printed origami paper. The instructor, Mai, will then explain how to fold the origami carefully so that even complete beginners can rest easy. The earrings you create will be the only pair in the world. They'll be a great souvenir to remember your trip in Japan or they can also make a perfect present for family or friends. Wrapping will be provided.
Make a Tsumami Ribbon and Brooch
Using a basic technique in traditional Japanese craftsmanship, Tsumami, you will make a flower brooch and a ribbon barette (hair clip). The ribbon uses nishijin-ori fabric, which is famous throughout Japan and is produced from Kyoto. The brooch can of course be attached to the ribbon, but it can also be paired directly with bags or clothing as well. Gift wrapping will be provided for both items.
