Activity Information
Experience Japanese culture through writing
The act of writing characters in calligraphy is deeply connected to the spirit of Zen and presents an opportunity to experience one of the many aspects of Japanese culture. A professional calligrapher will explain the origins and meaning of each kanji character while you choose which one you would like to write.
Choose from tools favored by a true calligrapher
One of many joys of calligraphy lies in the unique calligraphy tools. Let your expert instructor walk you through the many various characteristics like the thickness of the brushes and so much more.
Make 2 fans and if time permits also try your hand at different small objects
The original paper fans with your favorite Japanese character that you will make during this activity make for a great souvenir or interior decoration.
You can make up to two fans, incorporating characters tied to the city of Sakai. If you still have some time left over, you can make a postcard-sized artwork as well.
