Fukuroda Falls
Fukuroda Falls is counted among Japan’s three great waterfalls, alongside Kegon Falls (Tochigi) and Nachi Falls (Wakayama). The waterfall is 120 meters high and 73 meters wide, and in 2015 it was designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty. It is also called “”Yodo no Taki”” (Fourfold Falls), either because it cascades in four tiers or because the poet Saigyo praised it as something you must visit once in each season to truly appreciate. In line with that praise, the falls offer different charms across the seasons. In winter, an illumination event called “”Daigo Light”” is held, allowing visitors to enjoy the falls at night; lit in white, the scene can resemble a monochrome ink painting, and if conditions are right you may even see the falls frozen. Access is about 10 minutes by bus from JR Suigun Line “”Fukuroda Station.”” If arriving by car, free parking is available.
