Pier Bandai
Nigiwai Market Pier Bandai is one of the largest food markets on the Sea of Japan side, located on Bandaijima in central Niigata City. With the theme “Seagulls dancing—lively port—Niigata food market,” it is packed with Niigata’s attractions, including fresh seafood, carefully selected meat, rice, sake, and more, and it recently celebrated its 10th anniversary since opening. With facilities like a fresh fish center and a farmers’ direct market, it is beloved by local residents. All shops are on the first floor, where you can get meat, fish, rice, sake, and more—truly a constantly bustling space. There are many ways to enjoy Niigata food, including sushi, seafood bowls, fruit, and ramen, so why not go with an appetite? Pier Bandai is about a 25-minute walk from JR Niigata Station Bandai Exit, and about 20 minutes by car from Hokuriku Expressway “Niigata Nishi I.C.” There is a free parking lot for 141 cars, making it easy to buy souvenirs if you go by private car or rental car.
