Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of History

Fukuyama Kusado Sengen Museum (Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of History) is one of Hiroshima Prefecture’s leading history museums, featuring exhibitions that focus on the history of the Setouchi region and the archaeological excavations of the medieval port town ruins known as the "Kusado Sengen Town Site," which was buried beneath a riverbed. Opened in 1989, the museum displays materials related to transportation networks, maritime routes, and daily life in the Setouchi area, with a particular emphasis on Hiroshima Prefecture. Access is convenient: by train, get off at JR Fukuyama Station on the JR Sanyo Main Line and walk about 5 minutes (approximately 400 meters) west from the Fukuyama Castle Exit (North Exit). By car, the museum is about a 20-minute drive from either the Fukuyama-Higashi or Fukuyama-Nishi Interchange on the Sanyo Expressway. The highlight of the Fukuyama Kusado Sengen Museum is the reconstructed exhibition of Kusado Sengen Town’s streetscape as it once appeared. Recreated houses, gardens, wells, tools, and clothing believed to have been used at the time are displayed both inside and outside the museum. Visiting this museum offers an immersive experience that makes you feel as if you have traveled back in time. Every exhibit is meticulously crafted, making this a museum where visitors can easily lose track of time.
