Kamon Wharf

Kamon Wharf is a seaside shopping mall where restaurants and souvenir shops featuring the local seafood of the Kanmon area are gathered all in one place. Processed products centered on Shimonoseki’s famous fugu (pufferfish)—such as fish cakes, sashimi sets, fugu karaage (fried fugu), and overnight-dried fugu—are especially popular. The factory-direct antenna shop “Uoshige” offers many delivery gift sets, making it highly recommended for souvenirs. At the tea shop “Cha No Koku,” you should definitely try the soft-serve ice cream. The facility also includes shops selling Yamaguchi’s famous sweets and a honey shop operated directly by a beekeeping farm. For dining, seafood is the must-try: “Fuku no Seki,” run by a fugu wholesaler, is a favorite, as is “Ichiba no Yoko,” which buys fresh seafood daily from the adjacent Karato Market and serves it at reasonable prices. Other popular restaurants include “Fujiya” for Yamaguchi’s kawara soba and “Dunhuang” for seafood Chinese cuisine. Access to Kamon Wharf: by public transportation, take the Sanden Bus from JR Sanyo Line “Shimonoseki Station,” get off at “Karato” bus stop, then walk about 3 minutes. By boat, from JR Kagoshima Main Line “Mojiko Station,” walk 3 minutes to Mojiko Pier, take the Kanmon ferry for about 5 minutes to “Karato Pier,” then walk 3 minutes. By car, it’s about 10 minutes (about 4 km) from the Chugoku Expressway “Shimonoseki IC.”
