Roadside Station Kitaura-kaido Hohoku
Roadside Station Kitaura Kaido Hohoku is the westernmost roadside station on Honshu, located along National Route 191 within the Kita-Nagato Kaigan Quasi-National Park area. It’s surrounded by the Sea of Japan, sparkling cobalt blue behind it, and from the horizon you can even view the Tsunoshima Bridge. The station houses shops and eateries where you can enjoy freshly harvested vegetables and fruits from the nature-rich Hohoku area, as well as seafood landed at the nearby Waku fishing port—bringing a cooler box is highly recommended. It also boasts the achievement of ranking number one nationwide among more than 1,000 roadside stations in a certain well-known review site’s “Roadside Station Ranking.” Access to Roadside Station Kitaura Kaido Hohoku: by public transportation, take JR San-in Main Line from “Shimonoseki Station” via “Kogushi Station” to “Nagato-Futami Station” (about 70 minutes). Transfer to the Blue Line Kotsu Toyoura-Toyohoku Line bus bound for Hinaka, ride about 20 minutes, get off at “Waku” bus stop, then walk about 4 minutes. By car, it’s about 60 minutes from Chugoku Expressway “Shimonoseki IC” (about 44 km).
