Shima Marineland

Shima Marineland is an aquarium famous as "the aquarium where sunfish swim." With excellent access—about a two-minute walk from Kintetsu "Kashikojima Station"—it is recommended as an easy-to-visit spot. Because only a limited number of aquariums in Japan can showcase giant sunfish over 3 meters long and weighing several tons, they are the facility’s biggest star and most popular attraction. In the large circulating tank where about 2,500 fish such as yellowtail and sharks swim, you can also see scenes of real ama divers feeding the fish—an experience that is rarely seen elsewhere. For lunch or tea time, take a short break at the restaurant on the 2nd floor of the gate building, which overlooks Penguin Island. With menu items that include kids’ plates and Ise specialties such as "tekone-zushi" and "Ise udon," and seasonal limited menus that change throughout the year, you can enjoy not only the aquarium exhibits but also local food. At the shop, you’ll find gifts that delight all ages, including sunfish and penguin plush toys and the local sake brand "Zaku," so you won’t have trouble choosing souvenirs.
