Shikinen Sengu Memorial Sengu Museum
Shikinen Sengu Kinen Sengukan is a museum adjacent to Ise Jingu Shrine, built to commemorate the 62nd Shikinen Sengu held in 2013 (Heisei 25). It is known as a rare place where you can learn about Ise Jingu and Japanese tradition, as it exhibits an overview of the festivals held at Ise Jingu including the Shikinen Sengu, a life-size model reproduction of the main sanctuary (shoden) where the deities are enshrined, and materials showing the production process of "Oshozoku Shinpo," the sacred furnishings and ritual treasures for the deities. It is conveniently located about a five-minute walk from Kintetsu "Ise-shi Station." Although museums are often quiet places where you might choose your companion carefully, visiting with small children is also encouraged here, and the multipurpose restroom is equipped with a diaper-changing table. Because it’s easy to visit comfortably with people of any age, it’s also recommended as a great choice for a first museum experience. A common itinerary is to visit Shikinen Sengu Kinen Sengukan after worshiping at Ise Jingu, and if you get tired, you can take a short break at the rest shelter. Surrounded by a nature-rich setting that reflects the seasons, it’s a place where you can forget everyday bustle and spend a relaxing time.
