Tanabe City Tourist Information Center is a tourist information office located next to JR Kii-Tanabe Station. If you’ve come from far away and aren’t familiar with the area, this is a great place to ask about routes to your destination and recommended sightseeing spots. You can also learn about events held throughout the year, so you may pick up information you couldn’t gather from the internet alone. Inside, around 100 kinds of tourism pamphlets covering all of Wakayama Prefecture are always available, so taking a few home to discuss where to go next time is another good option. The center also accepts applications for renting electric-assist bicycles, which are convenient for getting around Tanabe City. It costs 500 yen per day, and you leave a 500-yen deposit that is returned when you bring the bike back—ideal if you want to explore freely beyond what public transport can reach or if you’d like a trip that also includes some exercise.
