Kishi Station - Tama the Stationmaster Cat Museum
Tama Museum Kishi Station is the terminal station and station building of the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line. It is known for its cat stationmaster "Tama," attracting visitors from all over Japan—especially cat lovers. Since opening, it long had a one-story wooden station building with a tiled roof, but as it became aged, it was rebuilt in 2010. Because Tama, the pet cat of the station shop "Koyama Shoten," was appointed stationmaster in 2007, a second-generation station building with a cat-face motif was constructed under the theme "Eco & Nekology." Inside the station, the "Tama Cafe" offers cat-themed drinks and sweets like gelato, and at the "Tama Shop" you can buy Tama-designed goods as souvenirs. Also, if you visit Kishi Station, you can buy specialty fruit-based products at the shop "Kinokawa Fruits Tourism Bureau" located directly across the street. From around February to May, you can also go strawberry picking at fields about a 13-minute walk away. At Kishi Station, you can enjoy a relaxed time in a nature-rich environment.
