Koyasan Station on the Nankai Steel Cable Line
Koyasan Station is the terminal of the Nankai Koya Cable Line (Koyasan Cable Car). Since opening in 1930, it boasts one of the longest histories among Japanese cable lines and has been selected as one of the "Best 100 Stations in Kinki." The cable car connects from Nankai Koya Line "Gokurakubashi Station," and most people arriving at Koyasan Station then take the "Nankai Rinkan Bus" to Kongobu-ji as the standard route. Over a length of 0.8 km and an elevation difference of 328 m—nearly the same height as Tokyo Tower—it climbs rapidly in about 5 minutes, offering seasonal scenic views throughout the year. If you have time between connections, it’s also nice to look around inside the station building, where photos documenting the line’s history are displayed. Limited-edition goods available only at Koyasan Station are popular not only with tourists but also with enthusiasts. If you plan to make a full pilgrimage to Kongobu-ji, it’s recommended and cost-effective to buy discount tickets sold only at the bus office counter in front of Koyasan Station. With the "Nankai Rinkan Bus 1-day unlimited pass," you can receive perks such as 20% off admission fees and 10% off at restaurants and souvenir shops.
