Aomori Local Cuisine OSANAI

Osanai Restaurant is a specialty restaurant for Aomori local cuisine, located just a one-minute walk from the East Exit of JR Aomori Station. Its signature dishes feature scallops harvested from Mutsu Bay, especially the famous "Hotate Kaiyaki Miso." This local specialty is made by simmering scallops, seasonal local ingredients, and beaten egg in miso inside a large scallop shell; it is also sometimes called "kayaki." The menu offers a wide variety of scallop-based dishes such as scallop ramen, butter-grilled scallops, scallop sashimi, and scallop curry, making it hard to choose just one. Another signature item is "Keno-jiru Ramen," a ramen-style take on the traditional local dish keno-jiru. The name keno-jiru is said to come from a dialectal change of "kayu no shiru" (rice porridge soup). It is a hearty soup made with finely chopped root vegetables like daikon and carrots, mountain vegetables such as bracken, and fried tofu, seasoned with miso or soy sauce; at Osanai Restaurant, it is served in a miso-based style. The restaurant also offers around 20 different set meals that include rice, soup, pickles, and a main dish, making it an excellent place to enjoy authentic Aomori comfort food.
