Nebuta Museum WA-RASSE

Nebuta House Wa Rasse is a facility where you can experience the atmosphere of the Aomori Nebuta Festival year-round. The Aomori Nebuta Festival is counted among the Tohoku’s three major festivals alongside the Sendai Tanabata Festival and the Akita Kanto Festival. The building’s distinctive facade resembles parted curtains and was designed by Dutch architect Frank La Rivière, known in Japan for works such as Maison Hermès Ginza. The Aomori Nebuta Festival attracts around three million visitors and is held every year in early August. Across Aomori Prefecture there are related festivals called "nebuta" or "neputa," but Aomori’s nebuta floats are especially known for their three-dimensional, wide human-figure style. The two-story open "Nebuta Hall" displays four large nebuta floats, each about 9 meters wide, 5 meters high, and 7 meters deep. Visitors can peek inside and even touch parts of the floats. You can also experience the distinctive "Rassera!" chants, the jumping dance of the "Haneto" performers, and nebuta musical accompaniment. On the second floor, the "Nebuta Museum" provides exhibits on the festival’s history. Access is extremely convenient—about a 1-minute walk from JR Aomori Station.
