Aomori Gyosai Center (Furukawa Fish Market)
Aomori Gyosai Center (Main Store) opened in 1969 and is affectionately known to locals as Furukawa Market. Around 30 shops gather here, with a focus on seafood. When you visit, be sure to try the signature "Nokke-don," a customizable seafood bowl where you place your chosen toppings over rice. To make a Nokke-don, you first purchase either a five-ticket or ten-ticket set, then exchange tickets for rice and your preferred toppings as you browse the market. Walking around and deciding what to pick is part of the fun. Enjoy Aomori’s ocean bounty, such as Oma tuna, Mutsu Bay scallops, and squid caught in Hachinohe. If you are not comfortable with raw fish, you can also choose options like pickles, tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet), and fried scallops. Once your bowl is complete, enjoy it in the market’s rest area. A large second-floor rest space with 120 seats is also available, so it is reassuring even for bigger groups. Some shops sell alcohol as well, so enjoying sashimi with a drink instead of a bowl is another great way to experience the market.
