Kushimoto Bridge
Kushimoto Ohashi is a bridge connecting Kii-Oshima Island and Shionomisaki on the Honshu mainland. In the past, the connection was made by cruise boats or ferries running between Kushimoto and Oshima Port, but since the bridge opened in 1999 (Heisei 11), using the bridge has become the main route. The design consists of a 386-meter loop bridge and a 290-meter main bridge, created with respect for harmony with nature. It has even been featured in a TV commercial for Suzuki’s 4th-generation Swift. Popular destinations after crossing include historical memorial museums such as the "Turkish Memorial Museum," "Kashinozaki Lighthouse," and the "Japan–U.S. Treaty Memorial Museum," as well as "Takanosu Observatory," from which you can view "Umikongo," a scenic spot selected among the "100 Natural Sites of Japan to Preserve into the 21st Century." "Resort Oshima" is also known as a camping destination, making an overnight stay another good option. If using public transportation, take the JR Kisei Main Line to "Kushimoto Station," then ride the Kushimoto Town Community Bus on the "Oshima–Izumo Line."
