Wakayama Marina City Kuroshio Market

Kuroshio Ichiba is a building within Wakayama Marina City that stands out with a distinctly Japanese atmosphere. The retro interior is designed to resemble a shopping street from the 1950s (Showa 30s), making it a facility where you can enjoy shopping while soaking in a nostalgic mood. Not only are local Wakayama ingredients available, but also a seafood market gathering fresh fish and shellfish from across Japan. The shelves are packed with an impressive number of items—so it’s easy to see why it’s said to have the region’s No.1 selection of local specialties such as umeboshi, soy sauce, and local sake. True to its nickname as a "tuna theme park," a fresh tuna cutting show is held three times a day, and the market becomes lively as soon as the show begins. For lunch, the seafood barbecue, fresh tuna rice bowls, and sushi are all excellent—at Kuroshio Ichiba alone, you can fully enjoy Wakayama’s soul foods to your heart’s content. By public transportation, get off at Nankai Main Line "Kainan Station," then take a Wakayama Bus and get off at the "Marina City" bus stop; it’s right there, so even without local knowledge you can reach it easily.
