Taishoya Ryokan
Taishoya is a long-established ryokan in Ureshino Onsen, Saga Prefecture, founded in 1925 (Taisho 14). While located in the lively center of the Ureshino Onsen town, once you step inside you find a calm, quiet atmosphere. The design was by the late Junzo Yoshimura, known for designing the New Imperial Palace. The baths include “Taki no Yu,” where you can watch colorful koi and hear the stream, and the spacious, open “Shiki no Yu.” There is also a private family bath, “Hakubai no Yu,” featuring water blended with Ureshino tea. Dining highlights Taishoya’s signature yudofu (hot-spring tofu), plus kaiseki cuisine featuring fresh seafood landed from the Ariake Sea and selected beef, served with careful attention down to details like using local Arita-yaki pottery. By public transportation, take the JR Kyushu Bus from JR Takeo-Onsen Station for about 35 minutes, get off at “Ureshino Onsen,” and walk 2 minutes. By car, it is about 5–10 minutes from Ureshino IC.
