Ibaraki Airport Pick-up Deck

Ibaraki Airport Observation Deck is on the 2nd floor of the Ibaraki Airport terminal building, where you can watch aircraft take off and land (it’s also called the viewing deck). The deck is enclosed with clear glass panels designed to make it easy to see aircraft movements. Because Ibaraki Airport is jointly used with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, you can see not only passenger planes but also fighter jets—one of its distinctive highlights. Seeing fighters up close and hearing their roaring sound is extremely impressive and exciting for both children and adults. Since it’s within the airport, you have easy access to facilities like restrooms and nursing rooms, and it’s convenient for meals and buying Ibaraki souvenirs. The restaurant tenant is the locally popular “”Suginoya,”” offering menu items using Ibaraki ingredients. For souvenirs, “”SKY ARENA”” sells Ibaraki specialties like natto and dried sweet potatoes, and the well-known local confectionery maker “”Kamejirushi Seika”” is also recommended. Access is by airport bus from JR Mito Station, taking roughly 40–70 minutes depending on service; by taxi, about 35 minutes from Mito Station. There is also free parking for 3,600 cars, making it easy to visit by car.
