Art Tower Mito
Mito Arts Center is a complex with three main facilities: an art museum, a theater, and a concert hall. It opened to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mito City’s municipal status, and it marked its 30th anniversary in 2020. In addition to a wide variety of events held across the three venues, you can also enjoy views from the center’s symbolic tower. The tower’s 100-meter height reflects the city’s 100th anniversary, and its form—regularly stacked tetrahedrons—evokes a futuristic image. The elevator to the observation area has glass walls, letting you look at the tower’s structure and Mito’s cityscape as you rise to an elevation of 86 meters. The tower is also lit up in different ways depending on season and time of day, making the tower itself an artwork. There is also an open plaza that serves as a relaxing urban space for residents, hosting flea markets and outdoor concerts; in summer, you may even see children playing in the cascade water feature. Access is by bus from Mito Station: get off at “”Izumicho 1-chome”” and walk about 2 minutes.
