Tsukuba Expo Center
Tsukuba Expo Center was built for the 1985 International Science and Technology Exposition held in Tsukuba Science City, and after the expo it reopened as a science museum aimed at helping people enjoy and get familiar with science. Its top highlight is one of the world’s largest planetariums. Under a 25.6-meter-diameter dome, the starry sky and full-dome visuals are intensely immersive, and the center shows original programs as well as child-friendly programs. The indoor exhibition hall includes hands-on areas where you can learn science through physical play, along with introductions to futures shaped by fields such as nanotechnology and life science. There is also a 3D theater for stereoscopic films and a museum shop stocked with items useful for science learning. Outdoors, dynamic exhibits include a life-size model of an H-II rocket and the “”Yurugi-ishi,”” where you can move a 50-ton stone. Access is about a 5-minute walk from Tsukuba Express “”Tsukuba Station.”
