Ryujin Ootsuribashi
Ryujin Big Suspension Bridge spans the Ryujin Gorge in the Okukuji Prefectural Natural Park, above Ryujin Dam on the Ryujin River. With a total length of 446 meters (375 meters for the bridge span itself), it is among the largest pedestrian-only suspension bridges in Japan. From the bridge you can enjoy panoramic views of the gorge’s seasonal scenery, and there are three “”peek windows”” where you can look straight down to the lake surface about 100 meters below. Taking advantage of this height, the bridge is also known as a mecca for bungee jumping, attracting about 10,000 jumpers each year; places offering a 100-meter-class jump are rare worldwide, and this is the highest in Japan. Seasonal events are also held, such as the “”Koinobori Festival”” in spring when carp streamers fill the bridge, the summer “”Toro Festival”” with lantern and bamboo light illuminations, and the autumn “”Fall Foliage Festival.”
