Mt. Maya

Mount Maya is a 702-meter mountain located in the central part of the Rokko mountain range in Nada Ward, Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. It is a popular leisure destination that shows a different face in every season—fresh greenery in early summer, autumn leaves in late fall, and snow in winter. To reach Mount Maya, take a city bus from JR Kobe Line / various private railway / municipal subway Sannomiya stations to Maya Cable Station. From there, you can ride the cable car and ropeway (the Maya View Line) up the mountain. The sweeping mountain slopes, Kobe’s cityscape, and Kobe Port seen from the cabin offer spectacular views—an exhilarating aerial stroll. From the Kikuseidai observation deck near the summit, you can enjoy a beautiful night view over the Hanshin area, counted among Japan’s “three great night views.” The mountaintop also features the auberge-style public lodging “Hotel de Maya,” where you can enjoy cuisine made with local ingredients and an open-air jacuzzi and sauna (swimsuit required). You can also extend your trip to Mount Rokko via the Rokko–Maya Sky Shuttle bus.
