Mt. Fudekageyama Observatory

Fudeageyama Observatory is located at the summit of Mount Fudeageyama in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and is a hugely popular spot for panoramic views over Mihara City and the Shimanami Kaido. There is a scenic driving route up to the summit, and a parking area is available near the observatory. Of course, it is also possible to take buses from the nearest stations, JR Sunami Station or JR Mihara Station, get off at the Wadaoki Tozanguchi bus stop, and then enjoy a hike. The views from the observatory vary throughout the day: in the morning you can see a beautiful sunrise, making it popular as a first-sunrise spot, and at night the islands floating in the Seto Inland Sea begin to light up, creating a stunning night view. If conditions align, you may also be lucky enough to see "sea fog." It most often appears from late autumn through winter and looks like a sea of clouds at first glance, but it is said to be fog rather than clouds. This fantastical scenery makes it a famous photography spot that attracts many photographers from around Japan. If you love photography, be sure to try capturing it yourself.
