Nemichi Shrine
Nemichi Shrine is a shrine in Itadori, Seki City. Its founding date is unknown, and its main enshrined deities include Nemichi Okami, Izanami-no-Mikoto, Oyamazumi-no-Kami, and Kanayamahiko-no-Kami. It was long worshiped as “Myojin,” but after being merged with several shrines, it became Nemichi-sha in 1876 (Meiji 9). It has long been like a guardian deity for local people. The shrine grounds are located in the mountains up the steps beyond the torii gate, and two komainu statues welcome you in front of the main hall. If you look closely, there are small child komainu at the feet of the statues—very cute. The main hall is protected by an over-structure (oiya) and watches over the community from the mountain. Today, many visitors come mainly to see the nearby “Monet’s Pond,” a nameless pond by the approach, famous for its beauty. Festivals are held in spring and summer. Spending time in the slow, calm atmosphere around the shrine can bring peace of mind.
