Ganso Kawarasoba Noodle Restaurant

Ganso Kawara Soba Takase (Main Building, South Main Building, and East Main Building) is the original birthplace of “Kawara Soba,” a beloved Yamaguchi local specialty. Created in 1962, kawara soba is a dipping-style soba dish served on a heated roof tile, topped with noodles and ingredients. The menu was inspired by an anecdote from the Seinan War, where soldiers cooked and ate wild plants and meat on roof tiles. The noodles are green tea soba, served with beef, shredded egg, nori seaweed, momiji-oroshi (spicy grated daikon with chili), and a lemon garnish. At the Main Building of Ganso Kawara Soba Takase, you can enjoy this “original taste” in a renovated, old folk-house style setting that retains the look and feel of a 100-year-old building, with a calm courtyard view adding to the atmosphere. The adjacent South Main Building is well suited for larger groups. The East Main Building has private rooms, which can be used when ordering course menus, letting you choose the best building to match your preferences and needs. Access to Ganso Kawara Soba Takase: by car, it’s about 45 minutes from the Chugoku Expressway “Shimonoseki IC” via National Route 34 and Route 40. By public transportation, take the JR Sanyo Main Line or JR San-in Main Line from JR “Shimonoseki Station” to “Kawatana Onsen Station” (about 40 minutes), then take a taxi about 5 minutes.
