Kashiko Island
Kashikojima is an inhabited island in Ago Bay in Shima City, Mie Prefecture. It is also known as an island that drew attention after hosting the Ise-Shima Summit in 2016. The island is home to leisure facilities such as Shima Marineland and accommodations including "Kashikojima Hoshoen" and "Hotel The Bay Suite" at Shima Kanko Hotel, and travelers from many places visit it as a base for exploring the Oku-Shima area. If you want to enjoy Kashikojima in a uniquely island-like way, a recommended experience is an elegant cruise on the Spanish sailing-ship-style sightseeing boat "Esperanza." The route departs from Kashikojima Port for an Ago Bay cruise, stops at a "Pearl Model Factory" to observe the nucleus insertion process for akoya oysters (the mother shells used for cultured pearls) (with pearl accessory sales available), and then returns to the departure point. The best way to get to Kashikojima is by using the Kintetsu line and getting off at "Kashikojima Station." Kashikojima Port, Shima Marineland, and Shima Kanko Hotel are all located within about a 10-minute walk of each other, so even travelers getting around on foot can visit easily.
