Mt. Kinka
Mt. Kinka is a symbolic mountain located in the center of Gifu City. Formerly called Mt. Inaba, it has an elevation of 329 m. At its summit stands Gifu Castle, and the mountain often appeared on the historical stage during the Sengoku period. It is said the name “Kinka” (Gold Flower) comes from the way the mountain turns golden when the tsuburajii flowers bloom in early summer. Ten hiking courses are maintained, and you can choose based on fitness level—making it safe and enjoyable for beginners and families as well. Most routes reach the summit in about 30 minutes to 1 hour, letting you enjoy nature fully. There are several viewpoint spots along the way, so you can stop and rest while taking in Gifu’s scenery. From the summit observatory, you can see the Nagara River running through the city, the Nobi Plain spreading to the southwest, and even as far as Nagoya in the distance. Night views are another major charm of Mt. Kinka: from the castle keep, the dynamic jewel-like lights across the Nobi Plain captivate visitors.
