World Freshwater Aquarium Aquatotto Gifu
World Freshwater Aquarium Aquatotto Gifu is one of the world’s largest freshwater aquariums, where visitors can enjoy learning about Gifu’s natural environment and river ecosystems around the world. The four-story facility displays about 250 species and 22,000 specimens of fish, amphibians, and plants—from familiar local creatures to giant freshwater fish from overseas. Exhibits recreate the Nagara River from source to mouth across the floors, allowing you to see species rarely encountered in daily life, such as iwana and amago trout, salamanders, and endangered species from Gifu Prefecture. You can also learn about diverse river environments and creatures from places like Africa’s Congo River, the international Mekong River, and the biodiverse Amazon—featuring animals such as the Mekong giant catfish and the massive arapaima. Daily programs include an adorable small-clawed otter feeding watch, a sea lion show, and capybara interaction experiences. Special programs such as nighttime aquarium openings and overnight night tours are also offered, making it a soothing and educational space for both children and adults.
