Gifu Park
Gifu Park is a beloved city park at the foot of Mt. Kinka, crowned by Gifu Castle. The park contains many facilities such as the ruins of Nobunaga’s residence, Kaburagi Gate, the Gifu City Museum of History, and the Nawa Insect Museum. The general information center is built in the style of a Sengoku-era samurai residence and includes a rental bicycle port and an observation deck with views toward a three-story pagoda. In “Nobunaga’s Garden,” a stone garden made using stones sourced from the Nagara River and techniques of the time, you can reflect on Nobunaga’s era at his castle while enjoying seasonal scenery. The Japan–China Friendship Garden offers a different feel from typical Japanese gardens, with Chinese-style gates and a pond modeled after West Lake in Hangzhou. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom from the Nagara River banks through the Friendship Garden area, drawing crowds day and night. In autumn, the red and yellow foliage that colors Gifu Castle captivates visitors. The Kikka Exhibition, showcasing about 3,000 pots of chrysanthemums at once, is also popular, attracting many visitors to see chrysanthemum dolls and chrysanthemum gardens.
