Koganezaki Furofushi Onsen

Koganezaki Furofushi Onsen is famous for an open-air bath with an infinity-like feel, as if it blends into the Sea of Japan. The hot spring water is classified as a strong chloride spring, and is said to be beneficial for cuts, sensitivity to cold, and beautiful skin. Its striking name "Furofushi" was chosen to mean "if you recuperate here, you won’t grow old or weak." The seaside rotenburo includes two baths: a gourd-shaped mixed-gender bath and a slightly smaller oval women-only bath. The water is a reddish-brown color rich in iron, and paid rental yunami (bathing wear) is available, so women who do not usually try mixed bathing may want to challenge it with a partner or friends. If you plan to use the open-air bath, you must first wash in the indoor bath. Furofushi Onsen is available for day-use, but only overnight guests can bathe until sunset. Consider staying at least one night and soaking in the open-air bath while watching what is said to be one of Japan’s largest sunsets. The onsen town of Fukaura is also known as a fishing ground where tuna comparable to Oma tuna can be enjoyed. At lunchtime, you can order the local specialty "Fukaura Maguro Steak Bowl," so be sure to give it a try.
