木曽川
The Kiso River is a first-class river that runs across Nagano, Gifu, Aichi, and Mie prefectures, and it is one of the Kiso Three Rivers. In Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture, you’ll see the midstream section of this major river, which stretches 227 km in total and is known for sights such as Inuyama Bridge. A top tourism highlight here is "Kiso River Ukai," where sightseeing boats let you watch traditional night cormorant fishing by torchlight up close, including the cormorant fishermen and their boats. There are courses without meals, as well as plans that include food such as an ukai bento, special ayu (sweetfish) set meals, and children’s bento. One important thing to note is that there is no toilet on the boat. Since you’ll be on board for at least 1.5 hours, be sure to plan ahead. From the boat, you can also see Inuyama Castle lit up at night. Along the Kiso River, a riverside promenade leads toward Inuyama Castle, and because many cherry trees are planted along the path, it is an especially recommended walking course in spring. Rickshaws are also available. A classic Inuyama souvenir is the local specialty genkotsu-ame candy. Access to the Kiso River area is about a 3-minute walk from Inuyama-Yuen Station.
