Yutaki

Yudaki Falls is a waterfall (70m high, 110m long) flowing from the southern end of Lake Yunoko, at the foot of Mt. Nikko-Shirane—one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains. The lake water spills over the rock wall formed by the Mitake lava flow that dammed the Yukawa River to create Lake Yunoko. Along with Kegon Falls, Kirifuri Falls, Urami Falls, and Ryuzu Falls, it is counted among the “Nikko Five Famous Waterfalls,” making it a popular sightseeing spot. From the viewing platform close to the basin, you can even feel the spray on your skin. The water that drops at Yudaki becomes the Yukawa River, which flows through Senjogahara and eventually into Lake Chuzenji. From the parking area reached by walking up the path from the viewing platform, you can also see Lake Yunoko and the point where the falls begin. Next to the platform is the “Yudaki Rest House,” where you can eat and buy souvenirs. Because Yudaki sits along the hiking route that heads north from Senjogahara, it’s also fun to visit as part of a longer hike if you have time. Lake Yunoko upstream is especially beautiful during the fresh-greenery season and autumn foliage season.
