Sagawa Art Museum
Sagawa Art Museum opened in 1998 in Moriyama City as part of Sagawa Express’s 40th anniversary project, aiming to contribute to the promotion and development of art and culture through cultural initiatives. To get there, take an Omi Railway bus from JR Moriyama Station and ride about 30 minutes to the “Sagawa Art Museum” stop. The main building appears to float on water, and its spacious design allows you to view the beautiful water garden from almost anywhere inside. The architecture, harmonized with the surrounding landscape, has won multiple awards. The museum exhibits works by leading figures of Japanese art, including Ikuo Hirayama, Churyo Sato, and Raku Kichizaemon. In the Churyo Sato area, some works can be touched, letting visitors physically sense their beauty. There is also a tea room adjacent to the exhibition galleries, designed under the direction of Raku Kichizaemon himself. The approach to the tea room is carefully crafted, and the tea room’s seating is at the same height as the water surface of the garden, creating an immersive feeling—almost as if you are submerged—where you can sense the passage of time.
