Kanigoten Hotel

Kani-Goten is a premium resort ryokan on the Ariake Sea, nationally popular as an Ariake Sea luxury retreat. The view from the open-air baths is also breathtaking, and you can even see Mt. Unzen in the distance. The panoramic open-air bath is designed so that soaking feels like becoming one with the Ariake Sea, and it is available only to guests. Meals (breakfast and dinner) are served in semi-private sunken-kotatsu style spaces. A must-try local specialty is “Takezaki crab,” purchased directly from crab fishermen every morning. Access: by public transportation, a free shuttle is available from JR Nagasaki Main Line “Hizen-Oura Station” (reservation required). By car, it is about 60 minutes from Takeo-Kitakata IC (Nagasaki Expressway) via National Routes 498 and 207 toward Isahaya.
