Mentai Park Oarai

Kanefuku Mentai Park Oarai is a mentaiko (spicy cod roe) theme park operated by the long-established mentaiko maker Kanefuku. There are four Mentai Park locations nationwide, but Oarai was the first and is the only one in the Kanto region. The Oarai mentaiko factory is one of Kanefuku’s large-scale sites and can produce as much as 5 tons of mentaiko in a single day. On the factory tour, you can watch the careful production work up close and also sample freshly made mentaiko. If tasting isn’t enough, there’s a direct sales shop and a food court on site. Favorites include the very popular mentaiko onigiri and the memorable mentaiko soft-serve ice cream—great ways to enjoy fresh mentaiko to the fullest. The adjacent Mentaiko Gallery also offers fun exhibits on how mentaiko is made and its history. Access is about a 20-minute walk from Oarai Kashima Line “”Oarai Station”” (about 2 minutes by taxi). The roof with a giant “”Tarapiyo”” object is a landmark.
