Makuhari Messe Event Hall
Makuhari Messe opened in 1989 and is Japan’s first convention center. It includes two international exhibition halls (11 total halls), an international conference hall, and Makuhari Event Hall. The facility has also won multiple architecture-related awards, including the 32nd and 40th BCS Awards (Architectural Institute/Association award), the IAITA Quaternario Award, and the 5th Chiba Prefecture Architecture & Culture Award. Access is about a 5-minute walk from JR Keiyo Line Kaihin-Makuhari Station. Many events are held here every year; well-known examples include the Tokyo Motor Show (a showcase of the latest automotive technology and design), the Tokyo Game Show (a comprehensive computer entertainment exhibition including video games), music festivals such as SUMMER SONIC and COUNTDOWN JAPAN, and the participatory mega-event “Niconico Chokaigi” (an offline meeting-style festival). There are also TV special programs and international sports competitions, among many other events.
