Ureshino Onsen
Ureshino Onsen is widely known as one of Japan’s leading hot springs for beautiful skin. Historical records show its long popularity: Siebold’s work written in 1826 (Bunsei 9) includes detailed notes on Ureshino’s spring quality, and many travel diaries and travelogues mention Ureshino Onsen—suggesting it was beloved even in the Edo period. Accommodation options range from hotel-style stays to distinguished, historic ryokan, allowing you to choose what fits your needs. Strolling the onsen town is also recommended. A local specialty is “onsen yudofu” (hot-spring tofu): be sure to try it freshly made and piping hot. The area also offers plenty of dining choices, from local izakaya to authentic Italian restaurants run by chefs trained in Naples. For souvenirs, local favorites include Ureshino’s sake “Torano-ko,” sake lees, and Ureshino tea. Access: by public transportation, take the JR bus from JR Sasebo Line “Takeo-Onsen Station” (about 30 minutes). By highway bus, the “Kyushu-go” runs from Fukuoka Airport Terminal. There are also shared taxis from Saga Airport. By car, it is about 5 minutes from Ureshino IC (Nagasaki Expressway).
