Takeo Onsen
Takeo Onsen is a traditional hot spring with about 1,300 years of history. Its mildly alkaline simple spring water has a well-balanced composition, and it has long been loved as a “beauty bath” and “skin-beautifying bath.” There are many classic inns, hotels, and day-use bathing facilities, letting you enjoy a variety of baths. In particular, Takeo Onsen Shinkan is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Claimed benefits include recovery from fatigue, neuralgia, muscle pain, joint stiffness/pain, frozen shoulder, bruises/sprains, and general health promotion; it is also said that those with malignant tumors, heart disease, or bleeding disorders are contraindicated. Takeo Onsen is also known for food: local homestyle dishes, pork skewers and yakitori at “Aun,” and local favorites like champon are also part of the fun. By public transportation, it takes about 70 minutes from Hakata Station by JR limited express. By car, it is about 60 minutes from central Nagasaki, 30 minutes from Yutoku Inari Shrine, 70 minutes from Yobuko in Karatsu, and 20 minutes from Ureshino Onsen—making it convenient for touring.
