National Okinawa Memorial Park
The National Government Okinawa Commemorative Park is a national park on Okinawa’s main island. It is divided into the Ocean Expo Park area in Motobu Town and the Shurijo Castle area in Naha City. The Ocean Expo Park area includes the Ocean Expo Park, Oceanic Culture Museum and planetarium, and Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. It also contains Emerald Beach, Okinawa Native Village, Omoro Botanical Garden, Tropical Dream Center, and the Tropical & Subtropical City Greening Botanical Garden. With an area of about 71.6 hectares, it’s very large, and visitors move around inside the park by bus or electric vehicles. The Shurijo Castle area corresponds to the broader Shurijo Castle Park, with Shurijo itself at its center; it covers about 2.7 hectares. Both areas are full of Okinawan highlights. Because both are spacious, planning one full day for each allows for a relaxed sightseeing schedule. Access to the Ocean Expo Park area is described as about 2.5 hours by direct route bus. Access to the Shurijo area: from Naha Bus Terminal, get off at Shurijo Park Entrance, then walk 5 minutes.
