100-year-old landlord
Hyakunen no Ie Ōya is an Okinawan cuisine restaurant in Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture. Operating for over 100 years, it’s a popular hidden-gem restaurant for tourists, housed in a traditional old home deep in the forest. Visitors ride a cart up a sloped path to reach the dining area. Strolling through the beautiful garden is also part of the enjoyment here. Multiple old houses stand within the grounds, and you can dine with a waterfall right in front of you. You can eat most classic Okinawan dishes here. Seating includes both table and floor seating, and it’s family-friendly for those with children. You can also ride a small train to explore the Yanbaru forest. At the Ōya Sweets Workshop, a popular item is the “Ōya Ball” cream puff; buying one after your meal and eating it while walking is recommended. Even after entering from the parking area, you’ll do some walking, passing sights like the Chimujurasa Torii—so enjoy the stroll as you go. Access is about 20 minutes by car from Kyoda IC on the Okinawa Expressway.
