Ikaho Onsen
Ikaho Onsen is a hot spring resort located in Ikaho Town, Shibukawa City, and is one of Gunma Prefecture’s most famous hot spring destinations alongside Kusatsu Onsen. A defining feature of Ikaho Onsen is that it offers two distinct types of hot spring waters: the Golden Bath and the Silver Bath. The Golden Bath has a brownish-gold color and is a sulfate spring rich in iron. The iron content oxidizes in the water, giving it its characteristic golden hue. This spring is known for its therapeutic benefits for cuts and burns and is also popularly called the ‘fertility bath.’ It is believed to be effective for rheumatism, neuralgia, gynecological concerns, cold sensitivity, and other conditions, making it especially appealing for women. The Silver Bath, on the other hand, is a relatively new hot spring source that was discovered during the Heisei era. As its name suggests, it is clear and colorless, and it is a simple spring containing a high concentration of metasilicic acid. Although less familiar, metasilicic acid—also written as metasilicate—is now widely recognized for its skin-beautifying properties and has gained attention as a natural moisturizing component. With its two contrasting yet complementary hot spring waters, Ikaho Onsen is particularly popular among travelers seeking relaxation, health benefits, and beauty-enhancing effects, especially women visiting for wellness tourism.
