Yumoto Choza

Yumoto Choza is a ryokan located in the nature-rich Fukuji Onsen, one of the hot spring areas within Okuhida Onsen-go. The building is made by relocating traditional Hida folk houses, and it offers five types of guest rooms, including rooms with hinoki indoor baths, rooms with irori hearths, and rooms with hibachi—so you can choose according to your preferences. The large public bath, built from logs cut from local mountains, conveys the warmth and softness of wood. In the spacious open-air bath made with massive natural rocks, you can enjoy mountain scenery that changes with the seasons. At “Kawara no Yu,” an open-air bath area along the river a short walk from the entrance, you can relax while listening to the babbling of the stream. Both indoor and open-air baths include reservable private baths, which are free for staying guests. Cuisine highlights the mountain blessings unique to Fukuji Onsen, with carefully chosen dishes using alpine vegetables grown in highland areas around the Northern Alps, iwana trout caught in the local Takaharagawa, Hida gohei-mochi, and other local specialties enjoyed with Hida’s local sake. Dining around the irori hearth provides a soothing, restorative time.
