Hidatei Hanaougi Hotel
Hidatei Hanaougi is a purely Japanese-style ryokan on the outskirts of Takayama City, known for its stately feel built around ancient “Jindai keyaki” wood and the warmth of natural timber. Guest rooms are themed around wood—using materials such as Jindai cedar, Jindai zelkova, and Yoshino cedar—so you can rest while surrounded by gentle wood warmth. The inn’s “Jindai no Yu,” a private on-site hot spring, wells up from 1,200 meters underground—one of the rare self-sourced springs in Hida-Takayama. The water is soft and slightly thick like a beauty serum, leaving skin moisturized and smooth. The large bath’s open-air section switches between men and women morning and evening, so you can enjoy different garden views and atmospheres. On the first floor, there is also a footbath gallery where you can relax while viewing the courtyard. Seasonal cuisine features mountain vegetables and mushrooms long eaten in the Hida-Takayama region, river fish, and top-brand Hida beef, enjoyed together with local Hida sake. Meals (both dinner and breakfast) are served not in guest rooms but in private dining rooms called “Sanmachi Koji,” offering a calm, intimate atmosphere. The late-night snack of Takayama ramen—a local specialty—is also popular.
