Shintencho Shopping District
Shintencho Shopping Street is a shopping arcade in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City. It has an arcade roof, so it stays busy regardless of the weather. About 100 shops operate here, offering everything from fashion to drugstores. It is called Shintencho because it is located in Tenjin. The area includes North Street, South Street, and an underground section, and it is surrounded by major destinations such as Fukuoka PARCO, Solaria Stage, Iwataya, VIORO, and Solaria Plaza. During the Hakata Dontaku festival season, the “Shintencho Dontaku Performance Stage” appears; during the Hakata Gion Yamakasa season, decorative displays are lined up. In the middle of the arcade is the “Merchen Chime,” which plays various melodies from 9:00 to 20:00 and serves the important role of signaling the time. Compared with a family-oriented arcade, it tends to be used more by adults visiting specialized shops. Access is excellent: about a 1-minute walk from both Subway Tenjin Station and Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station, making it easy to drop by while sightseeing.
